Incredible example of the series NANOCRYSTALLINE COPPER from Max Lamb. In which Max sculpted objects in clay in his bathtub before he had a proper studio. He would then coat them in silver nitrate, apply cathodes and charge them in a Nanocrystalline copper tank to grow a shell of Copper around them. He would then melt the wax out to make the next object in the series.
All of the objects in the series are hollow. Only 2 of the entire series are Jugs like this which the hollow cavity formed is effectively perfect for the design of the object. This vessel bottom has no bottom, the liquid stays in the walls which are also integrated handles. Patinated with 15 years of use at our studio.
Scrawled into the copper, “ML 2010” on the bottom. Originally purchased from Johnson Trading Gallery.
