CYMATIC LENS CHANDELIER

Composed of blown glass and mandrill bent steel, Jeff and team have resolved these very different materials into a composition similar to language.

The steel armatures are first modelled in plastic components borrowed from the custom motorcycle industry, typically used to model exhaust manifolds. The limitless flexibility of these simple tools have allowed us to produce a syntax of invented characters which delicately hold the blown glass diffusers.

Additionally, these parts can be used to scale and alter the chandelier design, editing in real time, with our clients before going into production of custom configurations.

The glass components are mold-blown by glass artists in Vancouver. We blow the molds into a unique form, where the bottom plate is carved, and spins freely on a ball bearing. As the spin mold operation happens, the glass collects the imprint of the unique plate.

The face of each glass component is reminiscent of waves, and throws an ethereal cast of refracted light.
